Veillie Starr Comics’ artist and founder, Avery Thompson is a graduate of Kutztown University with a Bachelor's of Science and majored in film and media production. Thompson has an undying love for art and is a self taught digital artist who is currently writing his first comic book, "Blakk Starr." Thompson artists Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Musashi Kishimoto, Akira Toriyama, Nikolas A. Draper-Ivey, Dominic Glover, Leonardo Di Vinci, and Dane Tilghman as inspiration for his work. The Vellie Starr Comics creator describes the comic genre as his ultimate passion, taking an aesthetic approach that blends the styles of traditional American comic books with elements of contemporary Japanese Manga. Avery has pop art prints for sale in the store any lover of the genre would love to own!
In addition to sci fi and fantasy inspired art, Thompson has also used his art to speak on the African American experience, politics, mental health, and spirituality. When asked what would he be doing if he wasn’t an artist he replied:“My college major was film, I'd focus solely on scriptwriting and editing”. As for the future, Avery is focused on developing his skills as an artist and moving onto bigger projects, such as publishing, animation, building a YouTube channel, and growing the Veillie Starr Comics gallery.
