The Color Purple

COLOR THEORY

Prince

Prince Rogers Nelson was an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and filmmaker. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Prince was known for his eclectic work, extravagant stage presence, and was considered a guitar virtuoso, in addition to playing the drums, percussion, bass, keyboards, and synthesizer. His innovative music integrated a wide variety of styles, R&B, new wave, funk, rock, soul, and pop. He sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling music artists of all time. His Favorite color was purple, the reason was that the color made him feel like royalty.  He was a great musician however, I could never get with the clothes or the videos. I mean would you rather dress like Micheal Jackson or Pince? Still haven’t made up your mind then check out this video.

Barney The Dinosaur

Barney & Friends was created in 1987 and premiered on PBS on April 6, 1992. The series featured Barney, a purple Tyrannosaurus Rex who would dance and perform songs about education and pretty much doing the right thing. Even if you did not have younger siblings or even watched the show you could not escape the Barney theme song “ I love you, you love me…” You know the rest because this guy was everywhere earning millions in merchandise and T.V. revenue. What you may not know is that the man inside of the suit was a software analyst David Eugene Joyner. But, stranger things have happened. It turns out that the former actor is now a tantric sex teacher, which is not a bad thing. Tantra has its benefits. However, the move from software analyst, then he became a child entertainer, and finally, sex counselor seems counter intuitive to most people’s perceptions. I guess Mr. Joyner is a renaissance man! Mr. Joyner stated, “there are many similarities between his career as Barney and his current position of tantric sex guru”. My thoughts were “the brother is hilarious”, whatever get money!

Promethazine

Most people call it lean, drank, sizzurp. Promethazine was developed in the mid-1940s by a team from the French chemical manufacturing company Rhône-Poulenc. The thing about this cough suppressant is that has become ubiquitous in our culture. I mean it was an overdose of drugs that killed Prince, the purple god himself. The drug is mentioned in music heavily and unfortunately caused the death of many artists. I think that at this point in time the rap music that we hear resonates with the mood and tone of grunge. There are interesting parallels regarding subject matter such as depression, confusion, and vulnerability. Opiate addiction can cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome and has been the cause of death for many musicians going back more than a century.
